Archived official description
...HIGH RISK FOR RAPID FIRE GROWTH AND EXTREME FIRE BEHAVIOR WITH ANY NEW FIRE STARTS THROUGH SATURDAY, DUE TO MODERATE TO LOCALLY STRONG SANTA ANA WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY... Moderate to locally strong Santa Ana winds have peaked today then will slowly weaken tonight through Saturday. The gusty offshore winds combined with very warm and dry conditions will maintain Red Flag Warnings for most of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties through Saturday, and for interior Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties through the remainder of this afternoon. * AFFECTED AREA...Santa Clarita Valley, Ventura County Beaches, Ventura County Inland Coast, Lake Casitas, Ojai Valley, Central Ventura County Valleys, Malibu Coast, Calabasas and Agoura Hills, Western San Fernando Valley, Eastern San Fernando Valley, Southeastern Ventura County Valleys and Los Angeles County San Gabriel Valley. * TIMING...Until 8 PM PDT Saturday. * WINDS...Northeast to east 20 to 35 mph with gusts of 40 to 55 mph today, lowering to 15 to 30 mph with gusts 30 to 45 mph on Saturday. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Minimums of 8 to 15 percent common. Poor overnight recoveries in the foothills and wind prone areas. * IMPACTS...If fire ignition occurs, conditions are favorable for extreme fire behavior which would threaten life and property.
Instructions in this archived message
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. Use extreme caution with anything that can spark a wildfire. Residents near wildland interfaces should be prepared to evacuate if a wildfire breaks out. See readyforwildfire.org and wildfirerisk.org for information.
