...RISK FOR RAPID FIRE GROWTH AND EXTREME FIRE BEHAVIOR WITH ANY NEW FIRE STARTS TODAY, DUE TO GUSTY SANTA ANA WINDS WITH VERY WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS... Offshore winds are not as strong or widespread as the past couple of days, but will still create a risk for new fires to have rapid growth in wind prone areas of LA/Ventura counties due to the very warm and dry conditions. By this afternoon, offshore winds may weaken sufficiently to allow some Red Flag Warning areas to be cancelled early. * AFFECTED AREA...Western Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, Eastern Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, Santa Susana Mountains, Southern Ventura County Mountains, Northern Ventura County Mountains, Interstate 5 Corridor, Western San Gabriel Mountains and Highway 14 Corridor, Eastern San Gabriel Mountains, Western Antelope Valley Foothills and Eastern Antelope Valley Foothills. * TIMING...Until 8 PM PDT this evening. * WINDS...Northeast to east 29 to 30 mph with gusts 35 to 45 mph, gradually diminishing in the afternoon. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Minimums of 10 to 25 percent common. * IMPACTS...If fire ignition occurs, conditions are favorable for extreme fire behavior which would threaten life and property.
Instructions in this archived message
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. Use extreme caution with anything that can spark a wildfire. Residents near wildland interfaces should be prepared to evacuate if a wildfire breaks out. See readyforwildfire.org and wildfirerisk.org for information.
